DSAGC Committees and Advisory Boards

Committees

In order to expedite the work of the DSAGC Board of Directors, the following committees and advisory boards have been formed to provide an organized, focused means of addressing unique areas of interest to the DSAGC. The Board is informed of all progress and recommendations of the committees. Each committee also has a participating staff liaison.

Advocates at the Table Committee

The Advocates at the Table committee provides advice and direction on issues that affect the lives of adults with Down syndrome. They ensure that the goals of the Adult Program are being met by enriching the lives of people with Down syndrome in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Executive Committee

The Executive Committee (EC) consists of the President, one or more Vice Presidents, the Secretary and Treasurer. The EC serves as chief coordinating committee for the DSAGC and ensures competent association management and implementation of the goals and objectives of the DSAGC. The EC makes important, time-sensitive decisions between Board meetings, serves as advisor to the President and the Executive Director and serves as review group for major program initiatives or changes. The Executive Committee is also responsible for implementing the policies set by the Board, overseeing the activities of the Executive Director and managing the committees.

Finance Committee

This committee assists the Treasurer in assuring that an independent audit is performed by a certified public accounting firm at the end of each fiscal year. Reviews annual audit and forwards to Board for approval. Assists the Treasurer in monitoring the reserve funds and the investment of these funds in a fiscally responsible manner and makes recommendations to the Board. Reviews the 990 and assists the Treasurer with the development of the annual budget.

Development Committee

The Development Committee expands the funding base in order to enhance the level of service and support available to individuals with Down syndrome and their families.

Governmental Affairs Committee

The GAC assists the association in becoming a proactive voice in government for individuals with developmental disabilities and their families.

Communications Advisory Panel Committee

The CAP Committee creates and oversees a communication plan for the DSAGC by maintain branding standards and offering expert advice and suggestions to develop our print, web and video features.

Governance Committee

This committee provides ongoing leadership to strengthen the board including assessing needs for board composition and identifying and appraising potential candidates. The GC designs and oversees an orientation process and board education, leads a periodic assessment of the board’s performance, and proposes adjustments in structure, process, and clarification of the board’s responsibilities. The GC takes steps to recruit and propose board members for positions that prepare them for leadership roles.

Event Task Force

These time limited task forces provide input, planning and hands on involvement towards an event such as the Annual Meeting, Golf Tournament, Buddy Walk, Family Theatre Party, Conference, etc.

 

Advisory Boards

Advisory Boards serve as a valuable complement to the Board of Directors by providing expertise, support and direction on a specific targeted area of concern to the Down syndrome community.

Currently there are three Advisory Boards:

Health Professional Advisory Board

The purpose of the Health Professional Advisory Board is to provide advice and direction on health issues ensuring that the DSAGC makes a positive impact on the health of people with Down syndrome in the Greater Cincinnati area.

Education Advisory Board

Young Professionals Guild (YPG)

The purpose of the Young Professional Guild is to create and organize fundraising events which will contribute to the financial stability of the DSAGC.
