Artificial Intelligence for Support and Independence

Ages: 13 - 18
Dates: June 5 (parent session) + June 12 (teen session)
Time: 9:00 am - 11:30 am
Location: 6/5 = Virtual & Recorded | 6/12 = DSAGC
Cost: $20 for both classes
Description: This interactive training introduces parents and teens to AI tools that can assist with learning, organization, and communication. Parents will explore AI-assisted resources and create a personalized chatbot for their child to use while students will gain hands-on experience using AI for self-support and daily tasks.

A chatbot is like a digital helper you can have a conversation with via voice or typing. It’s a computer program that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to understand you and respond like a human would. You can ask it questions, get help with tasks, or even just chat with it like you would with a real person. Think of it like texting with someone who’s always available and has access to a ton of information. It doesn’t think for itself, but it’s trained to recognize patterns in language so it can respond in helpful ways. Parents will not need any special equipment other than a computer.

The goal is to give every teen access to a helpful assistant that’s there whenever they need it—whether it’s for academic support, planning their day, or managing emotions.

Description: Join Chef Jordan & Chef Daniel in this fun virtual baking class where we'll be working on skills such as measuring, stirring, and cooking. Our fine motor skills, those involving small muscles of the hands and fingers, will be enhanced while baking up a tasty treat! An added bonus of these virtual classes is that you will be practicing cooking in your own kitchen with your own appliances and utensils!

Community Groups

Community Groups are designed to create opportunities for families that have children with Down syndrome to network and share common interests, concerns, challenges, and information. Community Groups connect through online chat groups and in-person meet ups! We have groups by area, birth year, and affinity. Community Group events are lovingly planned by volunteers. Be sure to check the calendar and community group Facebook groups for additional events and more details. Events below are planned as of March 1.
