Our programs focus on therapeutic, recreational, educational and social opportunities for all ages. We tailor our offerings to reflect the need of our local families as we strive to provide valuable support and quality programs for those in our community.

Age 0 – 5

 End of the Year Pizza Party 
Ages: 0 – 5 Families

Description: The party might be virtual, but the pizza is real! Come celebrate and enjoy one last get together in 2020 - the year we most certainly won’t forget! We will have 2 large, 2 topping free pizza vouchers from Domino’s Pizza available to every family who registers! Note, free pizzas are for pick-up only. We will then take time during the party to share with each other some of the positives we can take away from 2020 and what we are looking forward to in 2021.

Visit with Santa

Weekly Circle Time with Mrs. Maggie

Description: Come start your day with Mrs. Maggie! Participation in routine and group activities can help your child learn and grow. We will sing songs, read books, dance, work on greetings, review colors, weather, and other daily routines to enhance social and communicative skills. Benefits to participating in this program include building confidence through structure and repetition, strengthening social and listening skills, and enhanced coordination and rhythm (through song and dance).

Parent / Child Yoga

Date: 2nd Saturday of the Month (January 9, February 13, March 13)
Time: 9:30 - 10:00 am

Cost: Free
Description: Yoga for children fosters connection, fun, and strength building. It also helps to build muscle tone and confidence. In our yoga classes, children will explore partner poses, breathing exercises, and creative movement. These classes provide visual boards of the yoga poses and singing to encourage participation. A complimentary visual board will be sent to those who register with yoga poses, so you can practice throughout the month!
Instructor: Larita Hayden - Larita has taught yoga to children with special needs for six years. She has worked in education for a decade. She taught yoga to children with all abilities at St. Rita's School for the Deaf for 4 years. Larita completed level one, Yoga Asanas for Children with Autism and Special Needs. Currently Larita co-teaches grades 1-3 at Central Montessori Academy. She also teaches physical education for K-6th grade. Larita is also currently studying to obtain her masters in Special Education

Using Visual Supports to Improve Behavior and Compliance in Children with Down Syndrome

Description: During this educational class for parents and caregivers, we will be focusing on ways to use visual supports to increase independence and compliance, reduce anxiety by knowing what to expect, and aid with smoother transitions. There will be time for Q&A with Dr. Neej, and we will also include an activity to do at home. As a participant, you will also have the opportunity to schedule a time to work with Maggie on creating a personalized visual schedule using the DSAGC’s board-marker program. You and Maggie can create the schedule together and then a digital copy will be emailed to you to keep.
Presenter: Dr. Neeraja "Neej" Ravindran, Staff Psychologist, Division of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Division of Behavioral Medicine and Clinical Psychology. Dr. Neeraja "Neej" Ravindran comes to Cincinnati Children's Hospital Medical Center with extensive training and clinical and research experience in child clinical psychology and developmental disabilities. She has served in a variety of inter-disciplinary clinical settings, as well as inpatient and outpatient therapeutic settings, specializing in areas such as childhood anxiety disorders, parent education and training, developmental assessments for toddlers and children below age six, and working with children, adolescents, and adults with developmental disabilities.

Our new DSAGC Discovery Kits -for all ages- are designed to keep our loved ones with Down syndrome engaged in creating, celebrating and exploring all kinds of activities, topics and themes. Each kit will contain items that help individuals to not only discover and enjoy new interests, but will also provide therapeutic-like opportunities including sensory integration, fine and gross motor skills, and executive function exercises.

Holiday Party

This year, we are celebrating our annual Holiday Party at the Cincinnati Zoo and their “Wild Wonderland” for the PNC Festival of Lights! We wanted to continue the tradition of offering our families a Holiday Party full of friends, entertainment, and, of course, Mr. and Mrs. Claus! Because of Covid-19, we decided to host our Holiday Party at a safe outside location where we can still celebrate the season and our loved ones with Down syndrome.

Our Annual Winter Dance is one of our signature celebratory events of the year!  As we continue to safely care for our community, we have decided to host our annual dance VIRTUAL style! Ticket to the dance includes zoom access link.  This will be emailed to you before the dance.  If you sign up by Tuesday, February 1st, you will also receive a small gift from the DSAGC in the mail. We respectfully request ages 15 and up to attend the virtual dance (as this is the required age for our in-person dance). Note, this event is for EVERYONE 15 & up, so parents of younger kids are welcome to attend!

Description: Join fitness instructor, Debbie Schroeder, to learn interactive dance routines. This is a great way to stay active and exercise while working on a variety of gross motor skills.  The class also provides a chance to socialize with friends who you haven’t seen in a while. Use this class to strengthen skills like coordination and motor sequencing.

Coach Jeff Robison will lead you through a variety of moves that will improve balance and coordination.  Learning drills associated with martial arts also helps with body awareness and physical strength.

Cheer with Coaches Deb and Joanie

Cost: $10 (cost is for the poms & shirts, which you get to keep)
Description: Our cheer squad will look a little different for 2021, but it’s still going to be fun and interactive!  Join Coach Debbie Schroeder (former Ben-Gal) and Coach Joanie Elfers to learn 2021’s NEW cheer routine. All registrants will get a t-shirt and a set of poms.  There will be 3 virtual practices and 1 virtual performance.  High school cheerleaders will be invited to learn the dance and interact online with DSAGC cheerleaders!

Description: Join Chef Jordan & Chef Daniel in this fun virtual baking class where we'll be working on activities of daily living such as measuring, stirring, and other cooking skills.  Our fine motor skills, those involving small muscles of the hands and fingers, will be enhanced while baking up a tasty treat! While we can’t wait to be back together in our DSAGC kitchen, an added bonus of these virtual classes is that you will be practicing cooking in your own kitchen with your own appliances and utensils!

We want to enhance your student's learning with our one-on-one, individualized tutoring sessions. Therefore, we have worked with our Educational Advisory Board to offer Winter and Spring tutoring! Our tutors are experienced, local special education teachers who customize each learning opportunity to fit their student’s individual needs.

We will express ourselves through writing, drawing, art and more.
